The University of North Carolina Hospitals is a participating member of the National Resident Matching Program, Dental National Matching Service, and other advanced residency matching programs.

  • All applications should be mailed directly to the program to which you are applying. Please review the instructions on the application for additional required submissions (such as transcripts, etc.).
  • FOREIGN GRADUATES: ALL graduates of foreign medical schools must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. All alien foreign graduates must meet all VISA Qualifying Examination (VQE) or Foreign Medical Graduate Exam in the Medical Sciences (FMGEMS) requirements prior to applicationPer the University of North Carolina Graduate Medical Education Policy on Visas, University of North Carolina Hospitals will accept resident physicians who have been issued a J-1 Visa and who hold a current ECFMG Certificate. H1-B visas are not sponsored at University of North Carolina Hospitals.

Documentation of sponsorship qualifications must be submitted with application. If photocopies of the supporting documents are submitted, they must be certified by a notary public that they are true and exact copies of the original documents.

Personal interviews will be arranged by the individual program. Due to the large number of applicants for each of our programs, a recent photograph of you would be helpful but not mandatory; in no way will this be used to determine interview eligibility or selection priority.

Note: ERAS, or Electronic Residency Application Service, is a service which transmits residency applications, recommendation letters, Dean's Letters, transcripts, and other supporting credentials from medical schools to residency program directors using the Internet. To use ERAS, click here.
